In Ukraine, there are plans to create a network of companies for automated chip design, which, after launch, will be able to produce up to 50,000 chips per month.

It is planned that the production of microchips and components will meet the needs for creating precision weaponry, as reported by the National Industrial Portal. According to the President of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine, Anatoliy Zagorodny, the development and production of components for missile warheads with infrared homing, needed by the Armed Forces of Ukraine, is particularly relevant. He added that institutes of the National Academy of Sciences of Ukraine will be involved in reviving microelectronics production in Ukraine, which stagnated for 30 years.

In December of the previous year, the Deputy Minister of Digital Transformation for Eurointegration, Valeriya Ionan, stated that Ukraine plans to create a network of companies for automated chip design.

This involves fabless (a company without its own factory) and automated design of microchips, which will allow entering the chip market and establishing a position in the global semiconductor market. It is expected that production capacity could reach up to 50,000 microchips per month within three years after the project launch.

"We will meet the needs of the domestic market and create a foundation for export," stated Ionan.

If the industry revival strategy is approved, the Ministry of Digital Transformation plans to begin searching for a chip production partner in 2024. The implementation of this project is scheduled for 2025.

Vice Prime Minister and Minister of Digital Transformation Mykhailo Fedorov announced that in 2024, the Ministry of Digital Transformation plans to develop and present a Ukrainian chip. He added that the ministry is working with various companies in this direction, but further details are not disclosed at the moment.

During the presentation of the Innovation Development Strategy until 2030 by the Ministry of Digital Transformation, they announced the goal for Ukraine to enter the list of the top 15 countries in microelectronics by 2030. As part of the preliminary steps to achieve this plan, in 2024, the Ministry of Digital Transformation plans to introduce the Chips Act UA, which corresponds to the MAC 2.0 of the EU. They aim to start searching for partners for a major chip factory project in Ukraine, catering not only to the domestic market but also for export purposes.
