Energy facilities in ten Ukrainian regions were targeted by Russian attacks overnight and on Tuesday morning, including the Vinnytsia, Dnipropetrovsk, Zaporizhzhia, Zhytomyr, Rivne, Odessa, Chernihiv, Chernivtsi, Khmelnytskyi and Kharkiv regions, according to the Ministry of Energy.
"Russia carried out targeted missile and drone strikes on power plants, electricity transmission and distribution substations, and combined heat and power plants. Over the past 24 hours alone, Russian forces deliberately attacked energy infrastructure more than 20 times," the ministry said in a statement on Telegram on Tuesday.
The ministry added that attacks were still ongoing in some regions.
According to the ministry, the most difficult electricity supply situation as of Tuesday morning was in the Vinnytsia, Zhytomyr and Kharkiv regions.
"Energy infrastructure in these regions has sustained extensive damage. Damage to equipment has disrupted the ability to transmit electricity to consumers," the ministry explained.
It also clarified that emergency power cuts had been introduced in Kyiv and the Kyiv, Poltava, Sumy, Chernihiv, Cherkasy and Kharkiv regions due to damaged equipment and voltage drops in the high-voltage transmission network.
Overall, electricity consumption restrictions have been introduced in most regions of Ukraine.
"Emergency repair and restoration work is continuing at damaged energy facilities wherever the security situation allows. Energy workers are operating around the clock, seven days a week," the Ministry of Energy emphasised.
