There are currently no established or forming strike groups on the territory of Belarus that pose a threat to Ukraine.
This was reported live on TV by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
“As of now, we do not observe any change in the situation directly along our border. There are no established or forming strike groups on Belarusian territory that threaten our country. However, our vigilance must remain constant,” he said.
Responding to questions about the upcoming joint Russian-Belarusian military exercises “Zapad-2025” scheduled for September in Belarus, Demchenko assured that Ukraine is closely monitoring the situation.
“These are joint exercises between Belarus and Russia. But it should be understood that, regardless of whether the situation is active or inactive, the border direction with Belarus remains threatening for us. Therefore, we continue to strengthen our defensive capabilities along the border, reinforcing it both with engineering works and with border units,” Demchenko explained.
He noted that during the active phase of these exercises, the threat to Ukraine will naturally increase.
According to him, it is the task of intelligence units to monitor how many Russian forces will be involved in these exercises on Belarusian territory.
“But even if it’s a small number, one cannot exclude the possibility of provocations along our border or other hostile actions,” the spokesperson said.
Regarding the current situation on the Sumy direction, Demchenko reported that, according to information including reports from the “Kursk” group of troops, counterattacks are ongoing, and Ukrainian forces are managing to liberate territory from the occupiers.
“However, overall, the enemy continues its actions and intentions to advance deeper into our territory in this area. This concerns the boundaries of the Khotin and Yunakiv communities and represents a relatively small section of the entire 550-kilometer border with Russia within Sumy region,” he informed.
The spokesperson said that on this small section, the Russian forces continues to use tactics involving small assault or infantry groups sent into Ukrainian territory.
“On this direction, where State Border Guard Service units are positioned, including defensive sectors, we use all available weapons, along with units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine in this operational zone, to inflict maximum damage on the enemy and destroy these infantry groups,” Demchenko assured.
He noted that Russian forces are suffering heavy losses.
“Overall, within the defensive sectors of the State Border Guard Service units, enemy activity has even decreased in recent days, especially compared to the initial phase of hostilities in this area when the enemy sent large numbers of small infantry groups into our territory,” the spokesperson added.
