The Commissioner of the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights, Dmitry Lubinets, stressed that in this way the International Committee of the Red Cross violated its mandate and obligations.
None of the Ukrainian defenders in captivity saw representatives of the International Committee of the Red Cross.
This was announced by the Verkhovna Rada for Human Rights Commissioner, Dmitry Lubinets.
"None of the prisoners of war we released saw a representative of the International Committee of the Red Cross. This is a violation. In my opinion, this is a violation of the mandate of the ICRC, and we should talk about it publicly," he said.
According to Lubinets, he has previously scheduled a meeting with the leadership of the ICRC in Geneva.
"I'm going there in early October precisely because of this situation. Their mandate is to force the aggressor country to comply with the Geneva Conventions ⦠They were present during the exit of our heroes from Azovstal in Mariupol and, following their mandates, took upon themselves the obligation to check this, follow this, monitor this situation. We saw that this did not happen at all," the Ombudsman added.
