Over 35,000 Hasidic pilgrims have arrived in Uman for the celebration of the Jewish New Year.
This was reported on air by Andriy Demchenko, spokesperson for the State Border Guard Service of Ukraine.
“We have been observing the flow of Hasidic pilgrims to Ukraine for several weeks. Initially, there were small groups of a few hundred people, later increasing to several thousand. The majority arrived over the past five days. Crossing the borders from the European Union and Moldova, their daily numbers sometimes reached 4,000, 8,000, or 11,000. According to our estimates, more than 35,000 pilgrims have entered Ukraine in the past few weeks, mostly traveling in organized groups,” Demchenko said.
He added that some Hasidic pilgrims were denied entry due to document issues or previous violations of Ukrainian law.
“There were refusals related to passport documents or previous bans on entering Ukraine issued by state authorities. These foreign nationals may have violated Ukrainian law in the past, which led to the entry ban,” Demchenko explained.
