Poland has begun building a factory that will manufacture electronic components for U.S.-made Patriot air defense systems, Deputy Defense Minister Paweł Bejda announced on Wednesday.
“This is precisely what offset agreements are for — establishing service and production capacities in Poland. Today, construction began on the Military Electronics Center at the Naval Technology Research and Development Center,” Bejda wrote on social media.
The facility will produce electronics for LTAMDS radars used in Poland’s medium-range air defense system, Wisła, he added.
Wisła, which includes the Patriot systems, reached operational readiness at the end of 2024. It is currently in its second phase, with a contract signed with the U.S. for the delivery and integration of the Integrated Air and Missile Defense Battle Command System (IBCS).
The LTAMDS (Lower Tier Air and Missile Defense Sensor), developed by Raytheon, is designed to replace existing radar systems used in the Patriot batteries. The new radar offers 360-degree coverage and significantly enhanced detection and tracking capabilities for airborne threats, including ballistic and cruise missiles as well as drones.
