The Vatican has prepared a plan for Pope Leo XIV’s visit to Ukraine, but security concerns make it difficult to carry out, the pontiff said during a private audience, according to ANSA.

“It would be good to go to Kyiv; a plan for the visit is already ready, but it is difficult to implement,” he said.

The Pope clarified that the challenges are related to safety, but noted that the Vatican has completed the coordination stage to organize the visit. He also expressed hope that all parties will work toward a “just and lasting peace” in Ukraine and urged Italian diplomats to support this effort.

The Pope said he hopes to travel to Ukraine but did not specify a date for the visit.
