Prime Minister of Armenia Nikol Pashinyan considers the Russia-led CSTO (Collective Security Treaty Organization) bloc a threat to his country's national security.
He stated this during his speech in parliament.
According to him, instead of ensuring the defense of each member country, Russia only creates new threats, which negatively affect Armenia's security.
"Instead of fulfilling its obligations to Armenia in terms of security, the CSTO, on the contrary, creates problems. And this position, I say directly, is a threat to Armenia's national security," Pashinyan emphasized.
Furthermore, he added that during the war with Azerbaijan, Russia did not fulfill any provision to provide support and protection to Armenia.
On the contrary, Russia's policy aimed to demonstrate a completely opposite position, which put the country in a difficult situation.
According to Nikol Pashinyan's statements, Armenia's membership in the CSTO is currently practically frozen.
"You know that the Collective Security Treaty practically does not work for Armenia, as shown by the events of 2021-2022. This could not go unnoticed by us. Today, practically, we have frozen our participation in the CSTO," he added.
The country does not participate in any discussions within the CSTO and does not block proposals from parties as it currently does not have a permanent representative.
