On the morning of October 22, Russia again attacked Kyiv and several regions of Ukraine with drones. Explosions were heard in the capital from 5 a.m. Consequences have been recorded in at least four districts, with rescuers and medical teams working on-site.
Preliminary information indicates that people were killed in the attack, and among the injured was a two-year-old child. Several apartments and utility networks were damaged, and infrastructure destruction was recorded.
Volodymyr Zelensky reported, that “another night has shown that Russia does not feel enough pressure over prolonging the war.”
Zelensky noted that Ukrainian air defense forces, mobile fire units, and drone-interceptor crews were active throughout the night and morning. Ordinary cities were targeted, mainly energy infrastructure, but many residential buildings were also hit.
Fires were reported in Zaporizhzhia, and buildings in Kyiv were struck. The affected regions include Kyiv, Odessa, Chernihiv, Dnipropetrovsk, Kirovohrad, Poltava, Vinnytsia, Zaporizhzhia, Cherkasy, and Sumy.
“As of now, 17 people have been reported injured. Sadly, six people, including two children, have died. My condolences go to their families and loved ones,” he said.
The president stressed that Russian claims about diplomacy mean nothing as long as Russian leaders do not face critical problems.
“This can only be ensured through sanctions, long-range capabilities, and coordinated diplomacy from all our partners. It is time to adopt a strong EU sanctions package. We also expect strong sanction steps from the U.S., the G7, and all those who seek peace. It is very important that the world does not remain silent now, and that there is a joint response to Russia’s vile attacks,” he emphasized.
According to Zelensky, everyone who is helping Ukraine with air defense systems and missiles is saving lives.
“We are grateful for that. And everyone who helps Ukraine with long-range capabilities will bring the end of the war closer,” the president concluded.
UPDATE
There are already 21 people injured in Kyiv as a result of the combined Russian attack. Among them are five children.
