Russia launches widespread drone and artillery attacks across Ukraine

Dnipropetrovsk region

In the early hours of August 7, Russian forces carried out a large-scale drone assault on Ukraine’s Dnipropetrovsk region, injuring four civilians and causing widespread destruction. regional governor Serhii Lysak, Ukrainian air defenses successfully downed 33 enemy drones, but many still struck civilian areas.

In the city of Dnipro, a 69-year-old woman and a 43-year-old man were hospitalized in moderate condition, while two others sustained lighter injuries. Fires sparked by the attack destroyed an administrative building and 12 vehicles, and damaged 17 more. 8 residential buildings were hit, one of which was completely destroyed. A transport facility was also damaged.

Other areas in the Dnipropetrovsk region suffered similar strikes:

  • In Pavlohrad, a summer house and a car caught fire.
  • In Kryvyi Rih, a modular house burned down, and an unused building was hit in the district.
  • In Synelnykove district, fires damaged a school roof, dry grasslands, a private home, and a vehicle.
  • In Nikopol district, drone and artillery attacks hit the central city and nearby communities, damaging eight private homes, a five-story building, infrastructure sites, a business facility, and a public library.

Governor Lysak emphasized the scale of the attack, which affected multiple districts simultaneously.

Kherson Region

The Kherson region also experienced heavy attacks over the past 24 hours, with eight civilians injured due to drones, artillery, and airstrikes, regional governor Oleksandr Prokudin reported.

Strikes hit dozens of settlements including Kherson, Antonivka, Beryslav, Bilozerka, Komyshany, and Chornobaivka. Reported damage includes:

  • Four apartment buildings
  • Eight private homes
  • A gas pipeline
  • A private vehicle

Prokudin stressed the ongoing threat posed to civilians by daily Russian assaults.

Zaporizhzhia Region

An intense wave of Russian attacks also struck the Zaporizhzhia region, with 12 settlements hit a total of 723 times in a single day, according to governor Ivan Fedorov.

Casualties included four civilians killed — one of them a 62-year-old woman in Polohy district — and 13 wounded. Most of the casualties occurred in the Zaporizhzhia and Vasylivka districts.

Types of attacks included:

  • Five airstrikes targeting Kanivske, Kamianske, Malynivka, and Olhivske
  • 556 drone strikes, mainly FPV drones
  • Three MLRS (Multiple Launch Rocket System) strikes
  • 159 artillery attacks

Damage was reported in 23 locations, including homes, infrastructure, and vehicles. Fedorov called the scale of the assault “unprecedented.”

Donetsk Region

On August 6, two civilians were killed in Donetsk region — one in Kostiantynivka and another in Bilokuzmynivka — as reported by regional head Vadym Filashkin. Six others were injured in the attacks.

To date, Russian strikes have killed 3,396 and injured 7,767 civilians in Donetsk region, not including those in occupied Mariupol and Volnovakha.

Sumy Region

From the morning of August 6 to the morning of August 7, Russian forces launched 80 attacks on 40 settlements in Ukraine’s Sumy region, according to the regional military administration.

A 71-year-old man was injured in the Vorozhbyanska community in a drone strike. The heaviest hits were in Sumy and Shostka districts. Types of attacks included:

  • Over 10 VOG grenade drops from drones
  • Around 30 guided aerial bomb strikes
  • Up to 10 MLRS attacks
  • Multiple FPV and other drone strikes

Damage included:

  • A damaged car in Nedryhailivska community
  • Non-residential buildings in Vorozhbyanska
  • Residential and infrastructure damage in Sumy community
  • A private home hit in Bilopilska

Kharkiv region

In Kharkiv region, two men and a woman were injured over the course of the day due to Russian strikes. The head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration Oleh Syniehubov announced this on Facebook.

According to him, four settlements in Kharkiv region were hit by Russian strikes.

  • In Kupiansk, a 45-year-old and a 55-year-old man were injured, and in the settlement of Borova, an 86-year-old woman was injured.
  • Also, two women aged 75 and 86 who were injured in Kupiansk on August 5 sought medical help.

Russian forces used eight guided aerial bombs, three Geran-2 UAVs, one Lancet UAV, and three FPV drones in Kharkiv region.

  • In Borova of Izium district, an apartment building and a vehicle were damaged.
  • In the village of Khotiimlia in Chuhuiv district, a recreational base building was damaged.
  • In the village of Odnorobivka in Bohodukhiv district, a private house and power lines were damaged.
