Today, on August 28, Russian forces launched an airstrike on the center of Kupiansk, resulting in numerous casualties.
According to Oleg Syniehubov, head of the Kharkiv Regional Military Administration, the Office of the Prosecutor General, and President Volodymyr Zelensky's evening address, the strike caused significant damage, including to the city's administration building.
Syniehubov reported that the occupiers used a guided aerial bomb for the attack. As of now, 12 people have been reported injured. Additionally, the strike damaged 898 windows in residential buildings and 95 windows in the court building.
The Prosecutor's Office noted that among the injured were two police officers. Preliminary reports indicate that the city was hit by an FAB-500 bomb with planning and correction modules.
The attack also damaged a hotel, residential buildings, utility structures, cars, shops, administrative buildings, and other civilian infrastructure. A pre-trial investigation has been launched for violations of the laws and customs of war.
President Zelensky stated that civilians were trapped under the rubble as a result of the Russian attack.
Kupiansk, a frontline city, is frequently subjected to enemy shelling, with Russian forces located just 10 kilometers away.
