Russians have been allowed to compete in tournaments under a neutral flag. The International Esports Federation (IESF) considered the appeal of the Ukrainian Esports Federation (UESF) and made a decision regarding the suspension of the membership of the Russian Esports Federation (RESF) within its ranks. Russians have been permitted to compete in tournaments under a neutral flag.

This was reported by the Players media, which has a copy of the official statement from the International Esports Federation to its members.

It is noted that the Russian Esports Federation violated the statute of the International Esports Federation by opening its branches in temporarily occupied territories of Ukraine.

After reviewing all the facts, the IESF board conducted a secret vote, after which they decided to suspend RESF's membership. However, the decision was changed, taking into account the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee, and Russians were allowed to compete in IESF tournaments under a neutral flag.

"After a thorough review of the facts, the IESF Board conducted a secret vote and decided to suspend RESF's membership in good standing. However, in accordance with best practices and international norms, such as the recommendations of the International Olympic Committee, the Olympic Charter on inclusivity and non-discrimination based on origin, and the United Nations Declaration of Human Rights, the IESF Council adjusted the recommendation of the IESF Membership Committee, allowing players from all countries to participate in competitions on neutral terms, represented by the IESF flag.

This decision is aimed at protecting athletes and ensuring the participation of all IESF members.

The suspension of the good standing of IESF will remain in effect until the General Assembly, where all full members of IESF will decide whether to fully suspend RESF's membership, restore their reputation, or until RESF removes the cause of suspension," the statement said.

Recall that in February 2022, Russian esports teams were banned from participating in world tournaments under their own flag; some organizers completely disqualified Russian teams. In August 2023, the IESF allowed teams from the Russian Federation to participate in tournaments with their flag and anthem.
