Moldova's President Maia Sandu stated that her country is trying to protect itself from the risks of destabilization from Russia, but vulnerable areas still exist.
Sandu made this statement on January 13 in Romania after receiving an award in Timisoara, quoted by Agerpres.
Sandu pointed out that she expects Russia to attempt to destabilize the situation in the country this spring, in the midst of the pre-election campaign before the presidential elections.
"We know that this spring Russia will resume its actions to try to destabilize the situation," said the President of Moldova.
She assured that the Moldovan authorities are aware of these risks and are taking all measures to prevent these destabilizations.
"We inform citizens about these risks, as we did last year when Russia intended to overthrow the government (during protests organized by pro-Russian forces)," added Sandu. "Together with citizens and state institutions, we are trying to protect ourselves from these risks, but we still have work to do, there are still vulnerable areas."
Presidential elections in Moldova are scheduled to take place in the fall of 2024.
