As part of efforts to optimise and improve the efficiency of the state administration, more than 4,000 vacant positions in central executive bodies are expected to be cut in the first stage. Prime Minister of Ukraine Serhii Koretskyi announced this.

“The most important thing is that we are conducting a functional assessment of the state administration. We will examine what functions government bodies perform and whether they correspond to the country’s current realities and priorities. Only then will we determine their structure and final staffing levels,” the prime minister said.

The number of deputy ministers will be linked to the scope of their responsibilities and reduced by around 20%, while the number of deputy heads of other central executive bodies will be cut by almost 18%.

Another area of reform is improving the training system, which should be tailored to the responsibilities of specific positions. Information and internship programmes will be launched for young people, while a separate programme is being developed for veterans.

The Public Administration Council, which brings together government officials, members of parliament and experts, has already resumed its work. A detailed plan was presented at its meeting, with officials assigned responsibility for each area.

“The goal of all these changes is to create a professional state administration capable of carrying out its tasks quickly and effectively,” Koretskyi said.
