Seventeen Ukrainian universities have made it into the prestigious Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025, as reported by the Ministry of Education and Science of Ukraine.

At the recent Global Academic Summit, the British ranking agency unveiled results from one of the world’s most influential university rankings, evaluating 2,095 institutions across 115 countries. This year, a record number of Ukrainian universities—17 from cities including Dnipro, Ivano-Frankivsk, Kyiv, Lviv, Odessa, Sumy, Uzhhorod, Kharkiv, and Chernivtsi—were included in the rankings. Additionally, the number of Ukrainian universities that applied for participation reached a historic high of 55, which is one-third more than last year.

Notably, Sumy State University secured the highest position among Ukrainian institutions, ranking within the 801-1000 range globally. All other participating Ukrainian universities fell into the 1501+ category.

For the first time, the rankings included the National Medical University named after Bohomolets, Odessa National University named after Mechnikov, and Prykarpattia National University named after Stefanyk.

The Ministry of Education explained that the Times Higher Education World University Rankings 2025 methodology assesses universities based on 18 performance indicators grouped into five key categories: teaching, research environment, research quality, industry collaboration, and international outlook.

Overall, Times Higher Education analysts reviewed 157 million citations and 18 million scholarly publications from the Scopus database and conducted surveys with over 93,000 researchers worldwide as part of their reputation assessments.
