Spanish Prime Minister Pedro Sánchez promised to open an office for Ukraine’s reconstruction in Spain’s capital, Madrid, and to strengthen business ties between the two countries.

He made this statement at the International Conference on Ukraine’s Recovery in Rome.

“We are opening a new Ukraine Recovery Office in the capital of Spain, Madrid, to support Spain’s participation in building a better future for all Ukrainians. This will help attract official financial instruments, ensure institutional coordination, and enable regular visits to Ukraine by private sector representatives who can play an important role in the country’s recovery and modernization,” Sánchez explained.

He also announced plans to convene a meeting of the joint Spanish-Ukrainian commission in Madrid alongside a business forum to promote connections between businesses.

“Spanish companies hold leading positions in sectors such as healthcare, energy, water supply, governance, railways, infrastructure, agro-food, digitalization, and defense. We are ready to develop cooperation,” he said.

Sánchez recalled that Spain provided over one billion euros in military aid to Ukraine last year, with an additional one billion planned for 2025.

“We allocated 110 million euros for humanitarian activities — from building shelters for children and teachers to supporting mobile maternity hospitals. We also directed 840 million euros for financial assistance. Ensuring a safe environment for displaced Ukrainians is a priority for my government. Spain hosts the fourth-largest displaced persons community in the EU, numbering over 236,000 Ukrainians. Soon, there will be another Casa Ucrania hub for them in Alicante province,” the Prime Minister added.
