SSU military counterintelligence detains FSB agent who coordinated Russian attacks on energy infrastructure in Odessa region

Military counterintelligence of the Security Service of Ukraine has detained another FSB agent in the Odessa region. The suspect was coordinating Russian missile and drone attacks on fuel and energy infrastructure in southern Ukraine.

According to the investigation, one of the agent’s main tasks was to locate and transmit the coordinates of gas stations, as well as the positions of freight trains operated by Ukrzaliznytsia and fuel trucks belonging to Ukraine’s Defense Forces.

SSU officers detained the suspect “red-handed” while he was installing a GPS tracker on a military fuel truck in order to enable Russian forces to adjust an attack on the vehicle in real time.

According to the case materials, the targeting of Russian strikes was carried out by a local unemployed man recruited by the FSB. Russian intelligence services allegedly noticed him while he was looking for “easy money” through Telegram channels.

After being recruited remotely, the agent received instructions from his Russian handler to identify “required targets,” purchase GPS trackers and install them on selected facilities.

 

 

Through precision strikes on fuel tankers, freight trains and local gas stations, Russia planned to disrupt supplies to the front line and destabilize the internal situation in southern Ukraine.

During the search at the scene of the arrest, investigators found a GPS tracker that the suspect was planning to activate on a military fuel truck. A smartphone containing evidence of cooperation with the Russian forces was also seized.

The suspect is being held in custody without the right to bail. He faces life imprisonment with confiscation of property.
