Denmark’s Minister of Economy emphasized the importance of continued European support for Ukraine and the need for anti-corruption reforms.

Ukraine enjoys strong European backing despite a recent corruption scandal in the energy sector, Danish Economy Minister Stephanie Lose said ahead of the EU Council meeting on Economic and Financial Affairs in Brussels.

Speaking to journalists, the representative of Denmark, which holds the EU Council presidency, addressed whether the recent Ukrainian corruption scandal had affected the EU’s confidence regarding the reconstruction loan and financial assistance.

Lose stressed that the European Union must continue supporting Ukraine, while Ukraine must consistently work on reforms, strengthen institutions, and fight corruption.

“Ukraine must continuously pursue reforms, strengthen all parts of its society, and this also applies to the fight against corruption. But there should be no doubt that Ukraine has strong European support,” Lose emphasized.

On November 13, EU finance ministers in Brussels will discuss options for providing Ukraine with financial aid of €130–140 billion, either through loans or using frozen Russian assets
