Support among Latvian residents for accepting Ukrainian refugees in the country has decreased.
This is indicated by the results of a public opinion survey conducted by Rait Custom Research Baltic on behalf of the State Chancellery, as reported by Delfi.
Survey data show that less than half, or 48%, of Latvian residents aged 18 to 75 support the acceptance of Ukrainian refugees in Latvia. In March 2024, 60.1% of residents supported accepting Ukrainian refugees in Latvia, while in November of the previous year, this figure was 52%, indicating a statistically significant decrease after a peak in March.
However, compared to the March survey, the proportion of the population supporting Ukraine's NATO membership remained stable: 45% in June and 46% in March.
The same level of support is observed regarding Ukraine's accession to the European Union. In June, 45% of respondents supported Ukraine's EU membership, while in March, the figure was 46%.
The survey included 1,005 permanent residents of Latvia aged 18-75.
