During the Ukraine Recovery Conference, a new international initiative was launched — the Coalition for Science, Research and Innovation in Ukraine. Sweden is among its founding members.
According to the Swedish government, the initiative aims to support the development and growth of Ukrainian research and technological innovation.
The declaration’s key goal is to support Ukrainian researchers and innovators, particularly through the creation of joint research projects. It also envisions deeper integration of Ukraine into the EU's research and innovation landscape.
“Sweden stands firmly with Ukraine and the Ukrainian people. Supporting Ukrainian researchers is a clear signal that our commitment remains unwavering. EU research collaboration will be stronger with Ukraine closer to us,” said Lotta Edholm, Minister for Schools, Higher Education, and Research.
Sweden emphasized that supporting science in Ukraine is not only wartime aid but also a long-term investment in the future of Ukraine and Europe. It brings Ukraine closer to full EU membership.
“The government is working to ensure Ukraine stands strong today, tomorrow, and on its path toward future EU membership. At the Ukraine Recovery Conference, I am proud to represent Sweden as one of the initiators of efforts to strengthen research collaboration between the EU and Ukraine. This is not just an investment in Ukraine’s reconstruction today but in Europe’s long-term capacity for innovation,” said EU Minister Jessica Rosencrantz.
