The head of European diplomacy, Josep Borrell, has expressed support for the Ukrainian Armed Forces' (UAF) advance into the Kursk region. He made this statement following a conversation with Ukrainian Foreign Minister Dmytro Kuleba.
Kuleba and Borrell discussed steps to enhance cooperation between Kyiv and Brussels in the areas of supply and production of armaments.
The UAF breached the state border with Russia and began advancing in the Kursk region on the morning of August 6. By the beginning of the following week, they had managed to capture 480 square kilometers of territory, regional authorities reported to President Vladimir Putin. According to them, the depth of penetration was 12 kilometers, and the width was 40 kilometers. According to Ukrainian Commander-in-Chief Oleksandr Syrskyi, as of August 12, the Ukrainian army controlled about 1,000 square kilometers of Russian territory.
