The German Federal Ministry of Defense rejected the call of coalition politicians to supply Ukraine with more weapons and, if necessary, to weaken its armed forces.

A Berlin ministry spokesman said that the Bundeswehr could not take risks because of the threat posed by Russia under President Vladimir Putin.
"We must be prepared for the fact that Putin can take advantage of any weakness and even a temporary gap in the defense capability of NATO," he warned.
Earlier, Bundestag deputies Christian Klink (SPD), Sarah Nanni (Alliance 90/The Greens) and Alexander Müller (FDP) in an article for Spiegel, voiced the opinion that Germany must urgently provide more weapons to Ukraine to ensure its survival, even if this entails temporary gaps in Bundeswehr.
The day before, the German media Die Welt, citing sources in the Ukrainian government, reported that Germany has been blocking further deliveries of heavy weapons to Ukraine since June of this year. The German Ministry of Defense holds regular meetings to discuss this issue. But they end with a zero result for the APU.
As of July, Germany had pledged 675 million euros worth of weapons, but delivered only 39.9% (269 million euros).
