The Ukrainian Armed Forces have destroyed all Shahed kamikaze drones launched by Russian forces during the latest aerial attack overnight. This was reported by the General Staff of the Armed Forces of Ukraine on Facebook and by the Air Force Command on Telegram.
In the morning summary at the military command, it was noted that a total of 10 combat UAVs were used by the Russian forces for the attack on the evening of Tuesday, February 27.
"At the end of the last day, Russian occupiers attacked Ukraine, using 10 UAVs of the Shahed type. All 10 UAVs were destroyed by the forces and means of air defense of Ukraine," the military statement said.
In turn, the press service of the Defense Forces of the southern part of Ukraine stated that the enemy directed 10 combat UAVs from the Black Sea to the Mykolaiv and Odessa regions.
"For 1.5 hours, air defense units repelled this attack in an intensive mode," the defenders said.
It is noted that the vast majority of Shahed drones were shot down over the sea: 1 in the Mykolaiv region and 9 in the Odessa region.
Consequences of debris falling in Odessa:
In addition, it is noted that during the maneuvers of drones over the industrial zone of Odessa, debris from a downed Shahed damaged a transformer of one of the critical infrastructure objects.
"There was a short circuit and a fire. Firefighters promptly extinguished the fire. No one was injured," the military reported.
The Air Force Command of the Armed Forces of Ukraine later clarified that in addition to Shahed drones, the Russians launched S-300 surface-to-air guided missiles across Ukraine this night.
Overall, on the night of February 28, the Russian forces attacked with S-300 surface-to-air guided missiles from the occupied Donetsk region and 10 Shahed combat UAVs from the area of Russian-occupied Primorsko-Akhtarsk.
"As a result of the air battle, 10 Shahed UAVs were destroyed within the Odessa and Mykolaiv regions by mobile fire groups of the Defense Forces and anti-aircraft missile units of the Air Force," the sky defenders said.
