Pope Leo XIV stated that he is following the news of the continuous attacks on Ukrainian cities with deep sorrow, noting the casualties, including among children, and the significant damage to civilian infrastructure.

The Pontiff called for prayers for a just and lasting peace in Ukraine, according to Vatican News.

In his address, Pope Leo XIV emphasized that he continues to closely monitor reports of attacks on Ukrainian cities, particularly Kyiv, which have caused severe damage to civilian infrastructure and resulted in deaths.

According to him, the attacks “cause casualties and injuries, including among children, as well as significant damage to civilian infrastructure, leaving families without shelter as winter approaches.”

The Pontiff stressed that such events are unacceptable, stating,

“We must not grow accustomed to war and destruction!” and expressed strong condemnation of the aggression.

Pope Leo XIV assured his “closeness to the population suffering so cruelly” and called on the faithful to pray together:

“Let us pray together for a just and lasting peace in war-torn Ukraine.”
