Today, March 1st, the Russian Federation has been excluded from the Danube Commission. The international isolation of the aggressor state continues to grow.
This was reported by the Minister of Foreign Affairs, Dmytro Kuleba.
"The Danube Commission, one of the world’s oldest international organizations, decided at its 100th Jubilee session last December, during the first Ukrainian Presidency, that Russia's actions were incompatible with the Belgrade Convention.," emphasized Kuleba.
According to him, Russia had until February 29th to voluntarily withdraw from the organization. However, Kuleba stated that Moscow lacked the courage to do so.
"As a result, beginning today, the Commission's member states will no longer officially recognize their commitments to Russia under the founding Belgrade Convention," the minister said.
Furthermore, according to Kuleba, for the first time in the Commission's history, a fine was imposed on Russia for non-payment of contributions after it was stripped of its powers in this organization in March 2022.
"I thank the Danube Commission, our Danube partners, and everyone who helped make this historic decision. I urge all international organizations to follow suit, isolate Russian diplomats and kick Russia out. Aggressors and terrorists have no place in any reputable international forums," concluded Kuleba.
