The Security Service conducted a special operation in the Kyiv region, during which they arrested another Russian agent-handler.
The criminal, for monetary gain, was working for the main directorate of the Russian General Staff (more commonly known as GRU). Under the orders of the aggressor, he was establishing the geolocations of units of the Armed Forces within the territory of the capital region. The enemy was particularly interested in repair bases of the Ukrainian Armed Forces, where maintenance and restoration of Ukrainian equipment are carried out.
Additionally, the individual was leaking information about power substations in Kyiv to the occupiers.
Based on available information, the hostile intelligence service hoped that during the intelligence-gathering process, their associate would be able to identify the locations of energy facilities near the combat positions of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. This intelligence was needed by the aggressors to prepare a new series of targeted airstrikes on Kyiv and adjacent populated areas.
Officers of the Security Service apprehended the perpetrator in the act while he was filming a military base of the Ukrainian Armed Forces and associating its GPS coordinates with an electronic map. According to the investigation, the suspect is a 23-year-old resident of Odessa who had moved to Kyiv in search of "quick earnings." To achieve this, he left his "resumes" on specialized internet platforms for finding odd jobs. This is how he came to the attention of Russian military intelligence, which, for monetary compensation, recruited him to work for the aggressor country.
All subsequent communication was conducted through one of the messaging apps. To maintain secrecy, the traitor created several anonymous accounts. During the search of the detainee's residence, a laptop and smartphone were found with evidence of his intelligence-subversive activities against Ukraine.
Based on the collected evidence, Security Service investigators informed the suspect of the charges under Article 111, Part 2 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (state treason committed under conditions of martial law). Currently, he is in custody. The criminal faces a potential life sentence.
