The Security Service of Ukraine has apprehended another FSB agent in Zaporizhia. He was gathering intelligence about the routes and the number of equipment and military personnel from the Armed Forces of Ukraine sent to the front lines.
One of this traitor's initial tasks was to collect information about the local regional SSU office. As a result, he came under the scrutiny of Ukrainian internal security and counterintelligence, who began documenting the illegal activities of the Russian agent.
It was determined that the traitor installed his own hidden webcams along the main highways of the region to track Armed Forces of Ukraine convoys. However, SSU operatives detected and deactivated the covert video devices in a timely manner, preventing the transmission of sensitive information to the aggressor.
Of particular interest to Russia were convoys of heavy armored vehicles and artillery from the Armed Forces of Ukraine, which were involved in counteroffensive operations on the southern front.
The agent installed the webcams in locations specified by his FSB handler. To conceal the video devices, he affixed them to external lighting fixtures along the roads.
After the installation of the webcams, they were supposed to provide continuous online streaming of traffic, allowing remote access to FSB personnel.
For executing this hostile mission, the Russian intelligence agency transferred a monetary reward of UAH 30,000 to their agent's bank card.
The SSU systematically documented the criminal actions of the perpetrator and arrested the agent during a technical inspection of one of the hostile webcams.
According to the investigation, the accomplice of the aggressor turned out to be a local resident. At the end of September this year, he remotely contacted the administrator of a pro-Kremlin Telegram channel and offered his assistance in the war against Ukraine.
After receiving the "offer," the administrator of the Russian internet resource connected the man via messenger with an FSB representative.
In this way, the traitor received not only the task of intelligence and subversive activities but also step-by-step instructions for their execution from the aggressor.
During a search in the detainee's residence, a new webcam was found, which he planned to install additionally to track the movements of the Ukrainian Armed Forces. A mobile phone used by the suspect for communication with the FSB was also seized.
Based on the collected evidence, the SSU investigators informed him of suspicion under Article 15, Part 2, and Article 111, Part 2, of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (attempted state treason committed under conditions of a state of war).
He is currently in custody, and the investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces the possibility of life imprisonment.
