Cybersecurity experts of the Security Service of Ukraine have arrested a Russian agent in Odessa who was working for the FSB (Federal Security Service of the Russian Federation).
In exchange for regular financial "compensation" from the occupiers, their accomplice collected intelligence about the locations of Defense Forces on the territory of the regional center.
Furthermore, after hostile airstrikes on the city, she surveyed the affected streets and documented the consequences of the "attacks".
For each completed task, the Russian agent received up to UAH 20,000 equivalent in cryptocurrency from her "handler" at the FSB. The amounts were sent in the form of cryptocurrency to the agent's electronic wallet.
The gathered intelligence was intended for the aggressors to prepare new and adjust repeated airstrikes on Odessa using cruise or ballistic missiles and kamikaze drones.
SSU operatives detained the perpetrator during counter-sabotage measures when she was conducting reconnaissance near one of the Ukrainian military facilities.
According to the investigation, the Russian agent turned out to be a local resident with pro-Russian views who sought to "earn" money through collaboration with the hostile intelligence agency.
To maintain secrecy, she frequently changed her mobile numbers and phones.
During searches at her place of residence, bank cards and communication devices with evidence of her intelligence-gathering and subversive activities in favor of Russia were discovered.
Based on the evidence collected, the SSU investigators informed the detainee of the suspicion under Part 2 of Article 111 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine (high treason committed under conditions of martial law). Currently, she is in custody and has fully confessed to her cooperation with the hostile intelligence agency. The investigation is ongoing to establish all the circumstances of the crime. The perpetrator faces potential life imprisonment.
The counter-sabotage measures were carried out by SSU operatives in the Odessa, Donetsk, and Luhansk regions under the procedural guidance of the Odesa Regional Prosecutor's Office.
