The United Kingdom will transfer Puma HC.2 transport helicopters to Ukraine, which were recently retired from the Royal Air Force.

This was reported by Avions Légendaires.

According to information available to the publication, the UK Ministry of Defence will provide Ukraine with between 8 and 10 Puma helicopters, which were decommissioned on April 31, 2025.

The last units to operate these helicopters were the 33rd Squadron and the 230th Expeditionary Squadron, which deployed them in East Asia.

The Westland Puma HC.2 helicopters are old, but they underwent a complete overhaul by Eurocopter and later Airbus Helicopters between 2012 and 2014. It was during this period that they were upgraded from the 1971 Puma HC.1 standard to the Puma HC.2, which was officially retired from active service on Monday, March 31, 2025. These helicopters have night tactical flight capabilities, which could prove highly effective against the Russian invaders. They can carry up to 15 fully equipped and armed soldiers and are fitted with modern self-protection systems against missile threats from the ground.

The Puma will provide Ukraine with a certain degree of security in this regard, given the number of these helicopters still in service among allied forces.
