Local MPs of Transnistria turned to the Federation Council and the State Duma of Russia with a request to implement measures to protect Transnistria in the face of "increased pressure from Moldova". Such a decision was made by local parliaments of Transnistria at the congress on February 28, reports NewsMaker.

In addition, local parliaments appealed to the OSCE, the CIS, the European Parliament, the International Committee of the Red Cross, and the UN Secretary-General with a call to "influence the leadership of Moldova to return to adequate dialogue and to prevent violations of the rights and freedoms of the residents of Transnistria".

In their statement, local parliaments noted that Moldova has unleashed an "economic war" against the unrecognized Transnistrian Moldavian Republic (TMR), and also accused Chisinau of deliberately blocking negotiations with Tiraspol. It is worth noting that since the beginning of 2024, Chisinau has canceled customs privileges for Transnistrian entrepreneurs. This has sparked a strong reaction from Tiraspol. Krasnoselsky referred to the duties as a "medieval tribute", and the authorities of the region organized protests against Chisinau's actions in Tiraspol.

It should be recalled that on February 28, a "Congress of MPs of all levels" was held in Tiraspol. It was attended by local parliaments of the local legislative body and local district, city, and rural deputies, deputies of the first convocation of the local legislative body, representatives of the local executive body, and the leader of the unrecognized TMR, Vadim Krasnoselsky. This is the seventh such congress. The previous one was held in 2006, when local deputies decided to hold a referendum on joining Russia. In the same year, such a referendum took place, and more than 90% of the participants voted for the unrecognized TMR to join Russia. The international community and Chisinau did not recognize the results of the referendum.

At the fifth similar congress, MPs adopted the main law of Transnistria (the "Constitution"), and the first four "congresses" were dedicated to declaring the independence of the unrecognized TMR.

Before the seventh congress, opposition politician of the Left Bank, Gennady Chorba, suggested that local MPs might use the congress to appeal to Russian President Vladimir Putin to accept the unrecognized TMR into Russia. However, this information was refuted in Chisinau, Kyiv, and Tiraspol. The expert community on both banks of the Dniester also considered such a scenario unlikely.
