The government has included the Republic of Moldova in the list of countries whose citizens are covered by Ukraine’s simplified citizenship acquisition procedure.

This was announced by Prime Minister of Ukraine Yuliia Svyrydenko following a meeting with the Prime Minister of the Republic of Moldova, Alexandru Munteanu.

“Ukrainians in the Republic of Moldova will have the opportunity to acquire Ukrainian citizenship through a simplified procedure. The government has included the Republic of Moldova in the list of countries whose citizens are covered by this mechanism,” the statement said.

Svyrydenko noted that this decision is a natural step, as the two countries are united by a shared border, a common path toward the European Union, and a large Ukrainian community living in Moldova. Therefore, Ukraine aims to make access to citizenship easier for people.

The next task is to make the procedure as convenient as possible. Currently, acquiring citizenship requires passing exams in the Ukrainian language, the Constitution, and the history of Ukraine, but these can only be taken in Ukraine. The government is working to make it possible to take the exams remotely. It is also necessary to regulate the final stage of document processing through diplomatic missions abroad.

Separately, the participants of the meeting discussed the development of joint transport infrastructure, including the construction of a new bridge between Ukraine and Moldova, which would open additional opportunities for people and business.
