On August 24, 2025, Ukraine’s Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko and Canada’s Ambassador to Ukraine, Nataliya Tsmots, signed an Agreement on Mutual Administrative Assistance in Customs Matters. The signing took place during a meeting between Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky and Canadian Prime Minister Mark Carney.
“Today’s signed agreement opens a new chapter in cooperation between Ukraine and Canada and strengthens the long-standing partnership of our countries. The agreement is an important step in enhancing customs control and creating transparent and safer conditions for international trade. We are grateful to our Canadian partners for their unwavering support of Ukraine and their commitment to the principles of openness and the rule of law,” said Ukraine’s Minister of Finance Serhii Marchenko.
The agreement provides for the exchange of information between the customs authorities of the two countries to prevent, investigate, and stop violations. It will help increase the security of the entire supply chain of goods, which is key to stable economic development.
Additionally, the agreement will enable Ukraine and Canada to more effectively combat smuggling, illegal arms trade, narcotics, and other dangerous goods.
The document also includes clear mechanisms for protecting information, including personal data, ensuring transparency and accountability in the work of customs administrations.
The signing of the agreement underscores the shared commitment of Ukraine and Canada to the principles of partnership and mutual assistance. Its implementation is expected to have a positive impact on the economy, public safety, and the well-being of citizens in both countries.
