Ukraine’s Minister of Economy, Environment and Agriculture, Oleksii Sobolev, met with a German delegation led by the Federal Minister for Economic Affairs and Energy of Germany, Katharina Reich. The sides discussed Germany’s participation in the recovery of the Ukrainian economy and mechanisms to support investors.
“We are grateful to our German partners for their readiness to assist in the restoration and modernization of Ukrainian enterprises affected by aggression. Our goal, within the framework of the Industrial Ramstein initiative, is to provide industry with the necessary equipment and technologies, as well as facilitate Ukrainian manufacturers’ entry into EU markets. That is why supporting the participation of our companies in leading German business exhibitions is an important step toward full integration of Ukraine into European value chains,” said Oleksii Sobolev.
The parties agreed to further cooperation in the following areas:
- Investor protection. Ukraine proposed that Germany conclude an intergovernmental agreement on cooperation to support investors, based on a model successfully implemented with France, Denmark, the Netherlands, and Switzerland.
- Business matchmaking. This is a key area of cooperation between the countries, actively involving the UkraineInvest agency. In December, a Ukraine-Germany forum is planned in Berlin, where companies will have more opportunities to establish B2B partnerships.
- Industrial recovery. The Ukrainian side provided Germany with a list of equipment needed by affected enterprises, encouraging partners to participate in the Industrial Ramstein initiative.
- Dual-use goods. Solutions in mechanical engineering relevant to both the defense and civilian sectors were discussed.
- Energy and critical materials. Discussions included increasing biomethane exports, developing distributed generation, and joint projects in mining and critical minerals with the involvement of geological services and German experts. Ukraine is preparing a list of potential projects for research and expertise from German universities and institutions.
During their visit to Ukraine, the delegation visited a German construction materials company that is building a new plant in Ternopil region after its factory in Donetsk was destroyed. This is an example of attracting foreign investment to Ukraine’s reconstruction during the war.
