The day before, a working meeting took place between the First Deputy Minister of Environmental Protection and Natural Resources, Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi, representatives of the Ministry of Environment, and Ismo Tiainen, Director General of Administration and International Affairs at the Ministry of the Environment of Finland.
During the meeting, participants discussed Ukraine's needs and ideas for a joint project to support the creation of a system for monitoring biological and landscape diversity, including:
- The potential use of remote sensing methods for organizing landscape and biodiversity monitoring;
- Collaboration in developing a methodology for biodiversity monitoring in Ukraine;
- Determining the structure of a Monitoring Center;
- Developing software for collecting, accumulating, and analyzing biodiversity data;
- Sharing Finland's experience in organizing monitoring in accordance with EU requirements.
"We have a fruitful result from our joint work with the Ministry of the Environment of Finland. The biodiversity monitoring project will be finalized and submitted to the Ministry of Foreign Affairs of Finland by the end of August 2024. We are strengthening ties with European biodiversity monitoring communities and cooperation platforms. Enhancing international cooperation between Ukraine and Finland involves exchanging experiences and attracting financial, technical, and expert assistance in restoring the water and biodiversity monitoring system in Ukraine during and after the war," said Oleksandr Krasnolutskyi.
