"Registration for passage through the temporary routes announced by Ukraine is now open for commercial vessels and their owners." This was announced by the spokesperson of the Ukrainian Navy, Dmytro Pletenchuk, during the broadcast of the Yedini Novyny telethon.
According to him, shipowners and ship captains have been warned about potential dangers, both from the Russian fleet and from the remaining high level of mine danger.
The spokesperson of the Navy noted that everything will be carried out under the supervision of the Armed Forces of Ukraine, who are doing everything in their power to ensure security.
The adopted decision is intended to address two main tasks: overcoming the international humanitarian crisis and providing an opportunity for shipowners and companies to finally retrieve their commercial vessels, which are effectively in such humanitarian captivity due to constant Russian threats at sea.
"They (the Russians) not only say that these vessels will be considered arms carriers, but in one of the maritime negotiations, it was heard that it will be recognized that this country is participating in the war on the side of Ukraine. As of now, this is radio terrorism, and accordingly, it is also a violation of international law, maritime law regarding freedom of navigation," Pletenchuk added.
The Navy spokesperson also mentioned that details regarding the number of vessels and their owners who have already registered cannot be disclosed yet. Moreover, the terms for the announced temporary routes have not yet been determined.
