The European Commission recorded a record volume of organic product imports from non-EU countries in 2025.

Last year, EU countries imported 2.98 million tonnes of organic products, which was 12.8% more than in 2024, according to OrganicInfo.ua.

The largest share of imports traditionally came from the category “Fruits, vegetables and olive oil,” accounting for 45.5% of total organic imports in 2025. Imports of plant-based products increased significantly by 15.5%, while imports of coffee, tea, cocoa, and spices grew by 25.5%.

Despite the overall growth in EU organic imports, Ukraine exported 174,700 tonnes of organic products in 2025, which was 14.3% less than a year earlier.

The largest decline in Ukrainian exports was recorded in the category “Oilseeds and protein crops,” which decreased by almost 30,000 tonnes. The decline was linked to the introduction of Ukraine’s so-called “soy amendments” last year, as not all producers were able to adapt in time and confirm their organic certification status. At the same time, Ukraine remains among the top three largest suppliers in this category, exporting 48,800 tonnes in 2025.

Ukraine also remains the largest supplier of organic cereals to the EU, with exports of 85,900 tonnes. This accounts for 27.7% of all organic cereal imports into the European Union. Ukraine also ranked ninth among suppliers in the “Fruits and nuts” category, exporting 20,300 tonnes.

Overall, Ukraine ranked fifth among the largest suppliers of organic products to the European Union, after Ecuador, China, Peru, and the Dominican Republic.

Among EU member states, the Netherlands remained the largest importer of organic products, handling more than one-third of all organic imports entering the European Union. The top five also included Germany, Italy, Belgium, and France.
