Ukrainian tennis players Dayana Yastremska, Yulia Starodubtseva, and Daria Snigur advanced to the main draw of the Australian Open.

  • Yastremska defeated Joynt 2:1 (6:2, 1:6, 6:4).
  • Starodubtseva won against Knutson 2:1 (6:4, 1:6, 7:6).
  • Snigur defeated Inglish 2:1 (2:6, 7:5, 3:6).

A total of 7 Ukrainian women will compete in the 1/64 finals, marking the highest representation in the history of Ukrainian tennis. Elina Svitolina, Angelina Kalinina, Lesia Tsurenko, and Marta Kostyuk will join the winners of the qualification.

The qualifying trio of Ukrainian tennis players played three sets each in decisive matches for spots in the main round. Yastremska defeated the host Joynt, winning the decisive set after losing the second set. Starodubtseva's match against Knutson was even more dramatic, lasting almost 3 hours.

The first two sets followed the expected scenario, with the opponents exchanging victories. In the third set, a triple exchange of breaks led to a tiebreak. However, Starodubtseva quickly created a lead and secured her place in the debut major with a calm victory in the tiebreak.

Finally, Snigur defeated another Australian, Madison Inglish. In the first set, Snigur led 3-0 with two breaks and easily closed the set. However, the second set proved challenging. At 5-5, a tiebreak seemed inevitable, but Snigur unexpectedly lost her serve to zero. The Kyivan rehabilitated herself in the third set with breaks in the first and ninth games, ensuring her comfortable victory.

The day before, Svitolina and three other Ukrainian players learned their first opponents in the main draw. The winners of the qualification will find out their opponents later. The first matches of the 1/64 finals are scheduled for January 14th.
