Ukraine remains a priority for the G7, announced Canada's Minister of Foreign Affairs Mélanie Joly after a conversation with her Ukrainian counterpart, Andrii Sybiha.
"As Canada begins its presidency of the G7, my first official call was with Andrii Sybiha. Ukraine remains a priority for the G7. We discussed the current situation and the needs going forward. Canada will always remain a strong ally of Ukraine," Joly wrote on social media X on Friday.
For his part, Ukrainian Foreign Minister Andrii Sybiha also reported the conversation with Joly, stating that they discussed the good progress in Ukrainian-Canadian partnership in 2024, the situation on the battlefield, defense needs, and upcoming international events.
"I appreciate the confirmation that Ukraine will be a priority for Canada’s G7 Presidency in 2025," Sybiha wrote on social media X.
On January 1, 2025, Canada assumed the annual G7 presidency, taking over from Italy on a rotational basis.
