For over a year, various units of the Armed Forces of Ukraine have been actively using aerostats—aerial platforms essential in ensuring stable communications, monitoring, and defense.
Aerostats act as repeaters, which allows for much more stable communications than ground-based means. This is extremely important for effective military coordination. One of the developers says:
“We have been working for two years to ensure that aerostats fly in any weather conditions. We are currently testing them in the most difficult situations,” says Oleksandr for Frontliner.
An aerostat can rise to a height of approximately 800 meters, carrying a payload of up to 10 kg and operating regardless of weather conditions. In addition to communications, it performs surveillance, electronic warfare and interception of enemy drones.
“Aero Bavovna” is developing a special installation for intercepting enemy UAVs of the Shahed type. The company is also working on a new air defense system with partners.
A thermal imaging camera detects enemy drones, allowing the operator to fixate and detect the target in time.
Aerostats continue to improve, and various ways have been found to use them in the military sphere. Ukrainian developers are confident that these technologies will become integral to modern warfare.
