A Ukrainian court has sentenced the head of the Republic of Ingushetia, Makhmud-Ali Kalimatov, to eight years in prison in absentia for financing Russia’s war against Ukraine, the Office of the Prosecutor General reported.
The verdict, delivered following a public prosecution by the Chernivtsi Regional Prosecutor’s Office, found Kalimatov guilty of financing actions aimed at changing Ukraine’s borders and territorial integrity in violation of Article 110-2, Part 3 of the Criminal Code of Ukraine.
According to prosecutors, the Ingush leader systematically allocated regional funds and resources to support Russian occupation forces. Under his orders, the local government made one-time payments ranging from 100,000 to 400,000 rubles to residents who signed military contracts with the Russian Armed Forces.
Investigators also established that, at Kalimatov’s direction, deliveries of medicines, tactical gear, clothing, heat guns, sleeping bags, and vehicles were organized for Russian troops — a total of 45 tons of cargo.
The court additionally ordered the confiscation of Kalimatov’s property.
Kalimatov, who remains in office as head of Ingushetia, is already under sanctions imposed by the United States, the United Kingdom, and Ukraine for his role in supporting Russia’s war efforts.
