The Left Bank Theater officially opened on December 21st, 1990. Today it boasts a repertoire of more than 50 performances, a strong roster of premieres, a vibrant troupe of the country's greatest actors and great plans for the future. As of July 2019, Stas Zhirkov is the theaterâs artistic director, with Tamara Trunova as chief director.
In this performance directed by Belarusian Evgeny Kornyag there is no historical reconstruction of Homer's poems. âThe emphasis is shifted to a futuristic simulation of the soldiers' return home with reference to the nation's expectations of the end of the war with Russia" (Kyiv Daily). Penelope waits patiently for her husband Odysseus, who wishes to return home but is unable to. The story is told through artistically written monologues and represents "not only a plastic but also an extraordinarily musical" show.
"A beautiful picture (Ukrinform) about the faith, hope and tenderness of a loving woman."
