The restoration of Ukraine’s cultural sector, which has suffered due to Russian aggression, will require $10.5 billion over the next decade.

This was stated by the head of the UNESCO Bureau in Ukraine, Chiara Dezzi Bardeschi, during the coordination meeting "Restoration of Ukraine’s Cultural Sector," organized by the Recovery Support Office under the Ministry of Culture and Strategic Communications,.

"$10.5 billion—that is what we will need for restoration over the next 10 years, until 2035. But I want to emphasize that these figures should not deprive us of hope, as they help us plan and approach our work structurally, considering the long-term perspective for the coming decades," Bardeschi noted.

According to her, the total amount of damage in Ukraine’s cultural sector amounts to $4.11 billion, but this represents only direct losses. Meanwhile, broader damages, including lost revenues from tourism, creative industries, and education in the cultural sphere, reach $29.3 billion.

"And in reality, this is critical because it is almost 18% higher than the previous estimate in the report we conducted nearly a year ago," said the head of the UNESCO Bureau.
