The World Press Photo 2024 exhibition opnede at the Odesa National Art Museum. The exhibition feature 129 photographs, each representing the finest examples of photojournalism and documentary photography from 2023.
The exhibition in Ukraine was made possible with the support of the Embassy of the Kingdom of the Netherlands in Ukraine. Kyiv was the first city on the exhibition tour across Ukraine, and between late October and mid-November, the Dovzhenko Center hosted 1000 visitors who viewed the exhibition.
This year, the finalists from the European region include two works from Ukraine: project by Johanna Maria Fritz titled “Kakhovka Hydroelectric Power Plant: Flood in the Combat Zone”, taken during the evacuation of civilians during the flood, and the project “War is Personal” by Ukrainian photographer Yuliya Kochetova, which intertwines photographic images, poetry, video clips, and music, allowing the author to convey the experience of war through her own perspective. Her work won first place in the “Open Format” category.
The winner of the 2024 World Press Photo contest in Photo of the Year category is photographer Mohammed Salem with his photo “A Palestinian Woman Embraces the Body of Her Niece”, which he took on October 17, 2023, in the Gaza Strip after an Israeli missile struck the home of the Inas Abu Maamar family.
The exhibition feature works by each of the 31 regional winners from 24 countries worldwide. It showcases the major news events of 2023, as well as significant stories overlooked by both local and global media: from irreversible personal loss in Gaza, family struggles with dementia in Madagascar, migrants at the Mexico border, and life during the war in Ukraine.

Throughout the entire exhibition period: the entrance ticket for adults is 150 hryvnias, the discounted ticket is 75 hryvnias (for schoolers, students, and pensioners).
