President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky, during a telephone conversation with the new President of Switzerland, Karin Keller-Sutter, discussed a range of topics. During the conversation, he specifically proposed joining the Ukrainian program for food aid to Syria.

This was reported by the official website of the President of Ukraine.

It concerns a new initiative by Ukraine called Food from Ukraine, "to support the Syrian people and prevent a food crisis in Syria," as explained by the President's Office.

"This is a program under which our country will supply Syria with agricultural products," said Zelensky’s office.

It was noted that the first 500 tons of Ukrainian wheat flour have already been sent to Syria.

"Ukraine calls on its partners to join this initiative and help restore stability in Syria, which is simultaneously a shared contribution to protecting life worldwide," the President's Office stated.

During the telephone conversation on January 7, Zelensky congratulated Karin Keller-Sutter on assuming the role of President of Switzerland.

The President's Office reported that he also expressed gratitude to the Swiss side for providing political and humanitarian support to Ukraine, particularly "for the successful organization of the first Peace Summit and participation in the thematic conferences following its outcomes, as well as for their readiness to work together to find ways to achieve a just and lasting peace for Ukraine and all of Europe."

Zelensky also noted Switzerland's annual contributions to the humanitarian program Grain from Ukraine.

In addition, the President's Office said that the heads of both states agreed "to continue their dialogue during a personal meeting, which is planned for the near future."

As a reminder, in mid-December 2024, President Zelensky stated that Ukraine had agreed on assistance for Syria following the collapse of Bashar al-Assad’s regime in the wake of a successful offensive by rebel forces. Kyiv will initially organize humanitarian and security efforts.
