President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky is holding talks with German Federal Chancellor Friedrich Merz and Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni regarding the purchase of additional equipment for electricity generation.

The head of state reported this while speaking with journalists.

“There are two companies in Germany and Italy that produce the necessary equipment for generating electricity. I showed him (Federal Chancellor of Germany Friedrich Merz) the required amount. Why him? Because, first, it’s Germany, and second, they have significant humanitarian funding, and I’m asking to take money from that package and simply buy this equipment. This is a serious matter, and a significant amount of electricity can be produced,” Zelensky said.

He noted that he had also discussed this topic with Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni.

“I spoke with Giorgia Meloni, and she is also ready to support. She has an alternative — gas. She asked me what would be faster: this equipment or gas supply — and said, ‘Let me see which option is faster.’ She will talk to the companies. Both options suit us,” the President said.

According to him, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen also expressed readiness to assist with an energy package.

“There are also agreements with the Netherlands that they will help with energy — this is very important as well. We are now working on all the details,” the head of state added.
