On Monday, President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelensky signed a law that strengthens the Security Service of Ukraine (SBU), specifically granting it expanded authority to conduct special operations to defend the state.

"I signed today a law that empowers the Security Service of Ukraine, giving it greater capabilities to carry out its combat missions and eliminate the occupier, to conduct special operations to protect Ukraine. Its personnel numbers will be increased, particularly for the ‘A’ Special Operations Center units of the SBU — some of our most effective fighters," Zelensky said during his Monday evening address.

The draft law of Ukraine, titled "On Amendments to Certain Laws of Ukraine to Improve Specific Aspects of the Activities of the Security Service of Ukraine and Enhance Its Effectiveness in Responding to and Containing Armed Aggression Against Ukraine", is published on the website of the Verkhovna Rada.

According to the card for draft law No. 4542, the document was returned with the president’s signature on July 28.
