Romania considers it necessary to increase military assistance to Ukraine from the EU and advocates for the swift implementation of such aid programs under the European Peace Facility. This was stated by the head of Romania's foreign policy department, Luminița Odobescu, in Luxembourg ahead of the EU Foreign Affairs Council.

"Regarding Russian aggression against Ukraine, the security situation remains very delicate. This summer is critically important, and therefore it is crucial for the EU to increase military support. Romania has decided to transfer the Patriot system to Ukraine. Equally important is reaching a quick agreement on the implementation of the European Peace Facility and the use of extraordinary funds (from blocked Russian assets) for military support to Ukraine," emphasized Odobescu.

She also underscored that the EU should strengthen global engagement to advance Ukraine's proposals for achieving a just peace based on the principles of the UN Charter and international law. In this context, Romania's chief diplomat referred to the "very encouraging" outcomes of the recent Peace Summit in Switzerland, which saw broad international participation.

"I welcome the organization of tomorrow's intergovernmental conference with Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova, formally opening their negotiations with the European Union," noted Romania's Minister of Foreign Affairs.

Regarding the situation in Georgia, she emphasized the importance of keeping the path to the EU open for the country, as this is a message primarily for the people of Georgia, who aspire to a European future.
