Slovak authorities have stepped up the protection of the country’s critical infrastructure following a series of incidents, including bomb threats and suspicions of espionage, as reported by Tvp World.

The security operation was launched amid growing concerns after recent arrests and investigations.

Pavol Hašpar, head of Slovakia’s civilian intelligence service, reported that two people were detained on Tuesday in the town of Michalovce, suspected of involvement in espionage activities. According to Hašpar, one of the suspects holds both Slovak and Hungarian citizenship, while the other holds Ukrainian citizenship. He noted that the arrests followed a lengthy surveillance of the group, which was allegedly engaged in espionage.

At the same time, authorities are investigating bomb threats that have been made to schools, universities, and courts since spring. Minister of the Interior Matúš Šutaj-Šeptok stated that the enhanced security measures are aimed at protecting critical infrastructure.

An extraordinary meeting of the State Security Council was convened on Thursday to discuss the situation. Slovak media also reported that the identity of the suspect behind the bomb threats has already been established, though no further details have been disclosed.

Security measures continue to be a priority for Slovak authorities, who are working to prevent potential risks and ensure stability in the country.
