Ukraine exported 44.8 million tons of grain in 2023, which exceeded the previous year's figure by 16%. However, revenue amounted to $8.3 billion, a decrease of 9%.

This information comes from the National Scientific Center "Institute of Agrarian Economics."

Specifically, corn exports reached 26.4 million tons, almost 6% higher than in 2022. Wheat exports amounted to 16.2 million tons, a 44% increase from the previous year. Barley sales to foreign markets grew by 1% to 2.2 million tons in 2023.

"Traditionally, the largest buyers of Ukrainian grain last year were representatives of the European Union, Asia, and Africa. Moreover, last year, exports were predominantly to EU countries," noted the Deputy Director of the National Scientific Center of the Institute of Agrarian Economics, Academician of the National Academy of Agrarian Sciences Nikolay Pugachev.

In 2023, Spain topped the list of largest importers of Ukrainian grain, accounting for 17.1% of the value of this commodity group's exports. China ranked second with a share of 13.9%.

Romania, which was the top importer of Ukrainian grain in 2022, secured third place in 2023 with a share of 12.5%.

"Collectively, these three countries - the leaders in the ranking of main importers - accounted for about 44% of the total value of grain purchases in Ukraine," the scientists noted.
