UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer and Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan discussed, among other things, the war in Ukraine, started by Russia, and the upcoming European leaders' summit in London in a phone call.

This was stated in the British government’s announcement.

It was noted that Starmer shared with Erdogan details of his recent visit to the US and the importance of cooperation with international partners to support European security.

"Discussing the war in Ukraine, the Prime Minister reiterated the UK’s commitment to supporting Ukraine for as long as necessary to deter Russian aggression," the statement said.

It was also mentioned that Starmer would present his objectives at the leaders' summit in London on Sunday.

Downing Street emphasized that the leaders agreed to maintain communication.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer invited President of Ukraine Volodymyr Zelenskyy and over ten other European leaders to London on Sunday, March 2, to discuss security guarantees that countries could offer Kyiv in case of a ceasefire with Russia.

Leaders from Germany, Denmark, Italy, the Netherlands, Norway, Poland, Spain, Turkey, Finland, Sweden, the Czech Republic, and Romania received the invitation. The Secretary General of NATO, Jens Stoltenberg, and the heads of the European Commission and European Council, Ursula von der Leyen and António Costa, are also expected to attend.

UK Prime Minister Keir Starmer had phone calls with Presidents Volodymyr Zelenskyy and Donald Trump after their dispute at the White House and expressed his "steadfast support for Ukraine."
